Question:

I am 46 years old, 5’2″ and 315 lbs.  I have been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, and feel I’m stable enough to finally deal with my weight issue.  I am taking the month of July off to attend a weight loss program. Which one do you recommend, Structure House or Green Mountain at Fox Run?”

Dear CE,

Both Structure House in North Carolina and Green Mountain at Fox Run in Vermont are known for their weight loss programs and high success rates.  There is, however, one major difference that makes it very clear to me that of the two, Structure House would be the better choice for you.  Structure House has physicians and nurses on staff, while Green Mountain at Fox Run works more with exercise physiologists and nutritionists.  Because of your medical history and the amount of weight you need to lose, you definitely want to be under a doctor’s supervision as you begin this exciting new chapter of your life, losing weight.

One last thought…I have noticed that for some people staying at the same place for an entire month is challenging.  If that becomes the case for you, you might consider staying two weeks at Structure House followed by two weeks at Pritikin Longevity Center, which is in Florida.  Both facilities have a medical staff and specialize in weight loss.

Good luck to you, and congratulations on your full commitment to get started!

  1. I like Susie’s opinion, to be close to MD while you are in your new journey of lossing all that you no longer need. I will also recommend Energy Work since work in another level clearing the roots of what propelled you to gain weith, it is much deeper of hwat it seems. Blessings and congratulations.!

  2. Hi CE-I work for Structure House and would love to help answer any questions you have. We do require clearance from your doctor before beginning our program so it’s a good idea to be in touch with him/her as you make your decision. We do have therapists who can treat your bipolar disorder in addition to the core weight loss program you’d be own. The real question is if you’re ready to really examine your relationship with food, understand why you eat the way you do, and are willing to make changes so that food doesn’t become that thing you turn to in times of stress, boredom, habit, etc. We’d love to help you, check out our website for more info and our toll free number to call and ask questions!
